Been awhile, folks ... I've been on vacation, boozing it up in London Town for the past couple of weeks (it's the land of the $17 pint these days, so I didn't have all that many). I'm still trying to get terms such as "punter," "lift" and "mind the gap" outta my lexicon ... and this helps: The venerable summer metal tour Ozzfest will finally have serious competition this year from The Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival, which will hit 30 North American cities in July and August. Co-founded by the same gents that brought us the punk-a-rific Warped Tour and the screamo-tastic Taste of Chaos tour (and with solid Live Nation backing), the Mayhem Festival should be an immediate sucess. Why? Its dual headliners are two of best-selling heavy rock acts of the last decade: Slipknot and Disturbed. Two mind- and finger-blowing bands, Great Britain's Dragonforce (Bloody brilliant! Oops ... I digressed there, didn't I?) and Georgia-based critical darling Mastodon, are its primary support, and two side stages will feature performances by Sevendust, Machine Head, 36 Crazyfists and seven others. Specific cities and dates haven't been determined. So what are the chances that Mayhem will hit Dallas? I'd call it about 50-50 right now. |
