Check out Dr. Fernando Siles and the Peruvian flute he uses to supplement therapy.

Story

Dr. Siles says the music doesn't replace therapy or medication, but according to one patient in the story, Dr. Siles' music "saved my life. It really did."

What do you think about music therapy? Have you or anyone you know had experience with it?

I have a copy of Peruvian Soul and this stands out from other ambient/new age music because of the mixture of rock/
soul/
jazz/
r&b with other world elements.

My friend Patty cant sleep some nights without listening to Peruvian Soul's relaxing tones.

Great article. Pervian Soul is an amazing CD. I enjoy each and every song. I am so glad that Dr. Siles and Kyle Shaffer are getting the attention they deserve for great body of work.

I have always used music to help me relax and ease the tensions, stresses, and depressions I have experienced over my life. I think it's great that the doctor uses that in his therapy. I encourage my wife to do that as well.

I myself am a Music Therapist. I have taken courses in music therapy as well as an internship. I had to take a board exam. All too often, people don't realize that Music Therapists are highly qualified and credentialed. It's neat to hear about this story, but I must say that there really is science and a lot of understanding of how the brain processes music that goes into planning a music therapy session. Music is a very powerful tool and can be used in a variety of populations. I'm glad his patients enjoy the music, but as a music therapist, I just have to let others know that there's more to it than just playing an instrument for someone. I'm all for promoting Music Therapy. :) If you are interested in music therapy, you can check out www.musictherapy.org

I have a copy of Peruvian Soul, and it is very calming in an upbeat way. My kids have fallen asleep in the car when it was playing, when they might have otherwise been crabby.
