Local guy Adam Ilami from Aggtown is one of five artists heading to NYC next week to meet with and perform for the suits at Decca Label Group. The pop-rock singer-songwriter, who currently lives in Tennessee, has snagged a finalist spot in First Tracks: The Search for America's Best Musical Talent, but only the winner is guaranteed a recording contract. A crazy-strong grassroots "Vote for Adam!" e-mail campaign catapulted him to the top of two semi-final rounds, then the pool was narrowed further by celebrity judges including opera star Renée Fleming and singer Paula Cole ("Where Have All The Cowboys Gone," Dawson Creek's theme song "I Don't Want to Wait"). The finalists will record tracks in NYC, and you'll get to listen and vote here April 21-28 to determine the winner.
