April 17, 2008Is this a new heavyweight diva battle? I don't know if Mariah Carey's single is suffering from bad word of mouth following her album release or what, but check this out from Billboard.com today: After vacating the top spot last week to Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body," Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" returns to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with a 2-1 jump. Lewis thus becomes the first British-born artist to simultaneously top the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 since Phil Collins in 1990 and first female since Olivia Newton-John in 1974. Lewis' Spirit (Syco/J) debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200. However, Carey is likely to take the top spot next week with E=MC2 (Island Def Jam), which posted first-day sales of 154,000 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart. Stay tuned ... The entry "Leona takes down Mariah!" has no entry tags. I hate to write anything more about Ashlee Simpson -- she already gets way more press than she deserves --- but doesn't it seem a bit curious that media reports about her possible pregnancy come weeks before the release of her new album? Of course, maybe she is pregnant. Then again, maybe her handlers floated baby rumors so the all-too-gullible media would start paying attention to her before the CD comes out?
