Check out this mini-review by Joyce Saenz Harris, staff writer for our Taste section, about the Nick Lowe show last night ... Just got back from one of the best concerts I've ever seen: Nick Lowe at Sons of Hermann, with Ron Sexsmith opening. It was not publicized in the DMN as one of the must-see concerts of this week. But a loyal crowd of fans turned out anyway, and were rewarded with great, generous sets from both musicians including a soulful, beautifully harmonized duet near the end of the night, on "My Baby's Gone." Each of them sang and played guitar solo, with no backup. Nick sang two dozen songs, mostly from his new CD "At My Age," but also some of his older ones: "Heart of the City," Cruel to be Kind," "I Knew the Bride When She Used to Rock 'n' Roll," and of course, "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding." He told us "how thrilled I am to be back here again in Dallas...the scene of so many of my youthful indiscretions," and he complimented Sons of Hermann as "this brilliant room." |
