It's cool what's she's done very impressive, but doesn't George Strait have like 50 #1 hits? Where's all the hullabaloo over his accomplishment?

the Beatles racked up their twenty No.1's in what, 6 years?
today's artist puts out two albums(CD's)in that amount of time.

Folks I am 67 years old, do not listen to this musical genre, but am telling you Ms. Carey has a great
voice. I would love to see & hear her perform in an
opera. I know she would do an outstanding job.
And since I am a jazz fan I would love for her to
cut a jazz album or two.

Folks I am 67 years old and do not listen to this musical genre....but I am here to tell you that Ms Carey has a great God given gift, a beautiful voice. I would love to see & hear her in an opera and as a jazz fan wish she would cut a pure jazz album or two.

Mariah Carey is a trailblazer. Just not as big of a trailblazer as Elvis. Being the best selling female artist of all time gives her that distinction. And her having the most #1 singles by a solo artist is pure greatness. Remember most of her #1's came before the download era. By the way, no artist, except maybe Elvis and the Beatles at the beginning of their careers, had a peak window like Michael Jackson in the mid '80's.

i disagree to an extent. yes, there is only one king, and elvis is a huge icon. but to say that mariah is just a pretty voice with popular tunes is really a disservice for what she has done for music, yes, even if it is only just popular music. before elvis was a rock star, he was a pop star. let's not kid ourselves. even in the article, it says that mariah spurred many wannabes. there's a reason for that. also, there's a reason why she has so many number 1's. when it comes to r&b, there's many out there who would do anything to have her songwriting talents. and last but not least, she was very instrumental in this huge wave that has now overtaken music: hip hop. she was this queen of music, clean cut and beloved, and she started collaborating with rappers first. she is for sure a founder of hip hop mixed with r&b. something you hear EVERYWHERE now. even the almighty trailblazing madonna copied mariah when it comes to that one!

I am neither a fan of Mariah or Elvis though I prefer Mariah's music to his....A lot of what Elvis Presley did belongs to his looting of black blues singers who music he stole while sneaking to the outback Juke Joints in Mississippi and Tennessee. Tell the truth like is really is...We all know the real deal..

To say Mariah Carey is not a trailblazer is so wrong! Yes Elvis did change the world and still has a massive impact today and he will always be an ultimate ledgend and the King. But Mariah Carey's voice has changed so many lives and saved so many. Nearly every artist of today was inspired by the brilliant Mariah and she will continue to inspire artists forever. We live in an ago of R'N'B and Hip Hop, Elvis is greatly appreciated but Mariah is the ruler of music and when she has more number one hits than the beatles it will be a fact. Sorry, I do love Elvis and believe he is a ultimate ledgend but Mariah Carey is the best. Madonna on the other hand is as important and current as the doodoo bird, even JT and Timbaland won't be able to save her.

I have to disagree with the columnist- who probably is a biased boomer with an ax to grind against any artist that may appear to be a threat to the stature of 'their icons'.

Does anybody remember 'Glitter'? An implosion like that would have ended the career of anyone else, and solidifying themselves as a punchline to boot. But Mariah's come back, and she's stronger than ever. In a sense, she's enjoyed multiple careers in this industry. Not even Elvis would have been able to make that claim.
