Christy: Good Records' gigantic National Record Store Day shindig isn't the only notable local-music celebration happening soon. In fact, the next week has at least a couple additional more-than-worthy events. Mike Biggs' ambitious Mokah M2S2 local-music showcase and symposium is on Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m.; a week ago, he moved the event from April 19 so as to not compete with Good Records' festivities. And that's OK, since a bit of the same talent will be present at M2S2. The lineup at Mokah won't be quite as broad or as far-ranging, but it's still durned fine: Jayson Bales, Salim Nourallah, the Slack, Rahim Quazi, Bridges and Blinking Lights and more, with open-mike sessions hosted by Jenny Nabb and ad-hoc issue-moderated discussions between music sets by A Fine Line blogger Cindy Chaffin (she's baa-aack!). Tickets are $7, and partial proceeds benefit the Carter Albrecht Foundation. Then on Thursday, it's sister publication Quick's Big Thing awards show and concert at the Palladium Ballroom, headlined by Polyphonic Spree and featuring a slew of top Dallas-area pop and rock music talent. Admission's free, though tickets are required; fine out where to get 'em here. You'll be glad you did. Really, you will. |
