That's right, folks. Jorge Villamizar, the former lead singer of lauded, award-winning Latin pop group Bacilos, has crafted an excellent debut solo CD. The self-titled project, which arrives in stores May 20, is full of adult songs with catchy choruses and organic musicianship. You can listen to the disc's first single, "Ninguna," through his website. Also, check out my interview story with Mr. Villamizar, which should run on the cover of GuideLive May 21. Shouldn't newspapers, magazines, record labels, somebody be planning some sort of, well, something?! Think about it. Each one has moved so many mountains, and not just musically. Prince enlightened the public and other artists about the dangers of a lot of the high-dollar record deals, not to mention teaching everyone that his name is Prince (then TAFKAP), and he is funky. Madonna ushered in a new era of female pop superstar, showing everyone how to change with the times and remain relevant (I know, I know ... discuss on your own). Michael, well, whatever you think of the King of Pop now, he revolutionized music, dance, videos, etc. Where is the love?!
