D'Angelo's back! (Swoon ...)

I've always said that marketers missed a prime opportunity when they didn't package D'Angelo's single, "Untitled (How Does It Feel)," with a DVD of the song's video. I guess putting my fondest wish out into the ether wasn't a bad thing to do, because now I get an announcement that The Best So Far ..., a compilation of the soul singer's top hits and videos, will be released on June 24.

There are 17 audio tracks and seven previously unreleased music videos on So Far. Also debuting on that date is a 15-track digital album and four video downloads, as well as four "ringtunes," according to a press release. I'm more than pleased to hear that D's back in the studio, writing and recording a new release. About time. Can't get enough (giggle ... like me)? Make good, good friends with him here and, have mercy, here.

Ready? It turns out Beck is releasing a new CD this summer; no one knows exactly when, though. Scuttlebut has it that it could appear at any time. I'm hoping that this time next year we won't be saying, "Where it's at?"

The still-untitled album contains 10 still-untitled tracks and is co-produced by Danger Mouse. Beck will play the Austin City Limits Music Festival, which is being held Sept. 26-28 at Zilker Park in Austin.

Dallas has its share of great local jazz musicians, but it's not exactly a must-play town for national touring acts. Yet every now and then, we do get to hear some of New York's finest --- like tonight's Wycliffe Gordon concert at Sammons Jazz. Check out the details here.
