This needs no lengthy introduction. From Dolly Parton's California-based publicist: "Dolly Parton today expressed outrage over the airing of a segment on the Howard Stern radio show whereby her speaking voice was electronically manipulated to create racist and sexually vulgar comments. Here is her statement:" "I have never been so shocked, hurt and humiliated in all my life. I cannot believe what Howard Stern has done to me. In a blue million years, I would never have such vulgar things come out of my mouth. They have done editing or some sort of trickery to make this horrible, horrible thing. Please accept my apology for them and certainly know I had nothing to do with this. If there was ever going to be a lawsuit, it's going to be over this. Just wanted you to know that I am completely devastated by this." It takes a lot to get Dolly Parton this riled up. Apparently recordings from one of Ms. Parton's audio books were manipulated last week, according to Billboard.com. So, did anybody hear this Howard Stern segment? If so, let us know. |

Even more shocking is ... do [fully grown, adult] people still listen to Howard Stern?

I second the comment left by Christy.
Really, we already had one Lenny Bruce.
And he WAS funny.
Stern is not even close.

"do people still listen to Howard Stern"...Since he moved to Sirius, they have added over 8 million subscriptions.
So yes, not only do people still listen to him, some of us (fully grown, adults) elect to pay for that right, lol!!

Yes, fully, grown, adult people listen to Howard Stern...and Proudly! These are people with open-minds and a sense of humor. I bet neither of these two have ever even listened to the show. I heard the Dolly Parton clips and it was a JOKE!! When did this country become so uptight and conservative?!? Learn to take a joke people!!

Pedro,
So, because soemone doesnt share the same sense of homor as you, they are closed-minded? Your suggestion that people need to be more open-minded so that they can agree with you is as narrow and closed-minded of a perspective as you are suugesting the above commenters have. Great, you like Howard Stern (i dont care either way), they dont. Wouldnt it be more open-minded of you if you didnt care what they had to say about the subject?

If you listen to Dolly Parton's audio book you can defintely tell it was edited. What Howard Stern did is completely disgusting. Once again Howard Stern has crossed the line and I also can't believe Robin went along with it. I whole heartedly agree with Dolly on her decision to sue and Kenny Rogers, Burt Rogers, etc should join her. His show should be cancelled!!

I listen to Howard Stern on a daily basis. When I heard the Dolly clips I didn't think anything of it, as he has done this with many people over a long period of time. Also, the bit lasted maybe 3 minutes in a 5-hour show.
People have different tastes, and those that dislike Howard Stern can (and do) turn the station. I don't understand people that want him "taken off the air." I am an adult that pays for a premium service to hear the Howard Stern show while I am at work. Canceling his show or banning him from broadcasting because his material is "distasteful" is just a restriction of free speech.
If you like the show, listen to it. If you don't like the show, don't listen to it. Howard shouldn't be punished for being "distasteful," as that is subjective. If Dolly sues, and if the radio bit is deemed slanderous, then Dolly deserves whatever she gets.

I like Howard Stern, but I believe the country cherishes Dolly Parton.
If she's upset, I think a lot of people are going to be on her side.
He may have bit off more than he can chew with this one.

Stern's done this with lots of celebrities. Nobody who pays for access to his show could possibly have thought it wasn't manipulated audio. Are Dolly and her supporters (no pun intended) so clueless that they don't realize a) what Stern did is protected in the Constitution, and b) all they're doing is giving Stern free publicity?
