Last year, info for Ozzfest 2007 was announced in early March. It's now May, and there's been nothing official regarding Ozzfest 2008. Until now ... and that news is eye-opening for North Texas. This is what I've had confirmed by AEG Live, which is promoting this year's Ozzfest: It will be at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco. That's it. This is unofficial info that I've had corroborated by several other sources: PHP will probably be Ozzfest's only U.S. location (that's right; It's pulling a Lollapalooza). It will be a two-day event on Aug. 9-10. Ozzy will headline the Aug. 10 date, and one of the globe's most popular and controversial metal (that's a hint, folks) bands will headline on Aug. 9 (c'mon, think: what band is releasing an album in September?). Yeah. Wow is right. In any case, we should know more over the weekend: the rumor is that official info will be released then. So why is Ozzfest not touring this year? Well, the inaugural Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival is stealing much of Ozzfest's potential thunder; in fact, the Mayhem fest is prominently advertised on the Ozzfest web site. That should have been clue No. 1 in terms of the possibility that Ozzfest wouldn't be a touring event this year, and that rumor has been floating around (and reported by outlets such as MTV.com) since early April. And why North Texas, during the hottest time of year? We don't know for sure yet, but availability of the venue (compared to some other rumored sites in New Jersey and outside Denver), proximity to a large airport, wide-open spaces and that wish-I-could-actually-say-it Aug. 9 headliner -- which has a demonstrated affinity for North Texas audiences -- are all likely factors. I've been assured that we'll know for sure in a few days. Start saving, though; it's very likely that it'll be pricey to attend ... which, of course, offsets the fact that Ozzfest 2007 was free last year. E-mail entry: |
