Main| Fifteen area acts perform Saturday at Opening Bell Coffeehouse »
Turns out that most of what I was told late last week about Ozzfest 2008 was true. Not all, but most. The official word as of three hours ago: Ozzfest is a "one-day stadium spectacular" (as opposed to two days) at Pizza Hut Park on Aug. 9. The main-stage headliners: Metallica, Ozzy (no Black Sabbath reunion ... you thought that would happen as Heaven and Hell tours this summer, too? Hah), Jonathan Davis (of Korn), Hellyeah, Serj Tankian (of System of a Down), Shadows Fall, Apocalyptica (which performed a highly entertaining show at House of Blues last night), In This Moment (who?) and Cavalera Conspiracy. The latter act is highly notable because the band marks the reuniting of formerly feuding Sepultura co-founders Max and Igor Cavalera, and its Ozzfest set will consist of only Sepultura songs instead of cuts from CC's pummeling recent CD, Inflikted. In addition, Hellyeah drummer Vinnie Paul will participate in a "special all-star tribute" to Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott (enough already with that!). Tickets will go on sale May 31. No word on price yet, but expect the tariffs to be high ... and attention out-of-towners: book your Frisco-area hotel rooms and rent that car now. Second Stage acts: Sevendust, DevilDriver, Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Witchcraft and Goatwhore. Third Stage (dedicated to Texas-based acts): The Sword, Drowning Pool and Rigor Mortis (with more sure to be booked). A couple of tasty bits: American Airlines will reportedly be a partner (could mean plane-fare discounts ... and yes, Pizza Hut Park's proximity to a major airport was a large factor in Ozzfest 2008 being sited here), and Tool was offered the third slot below the Mighty Met and Ozzy, but refused it. Eh, it's been touring enough during the past year or so already ... E-mail entry: |
