Spent the last couple days watching Saturday Night Fever and its sequel, Staying Alive. Got both DVDs. Fever is still a great movie. Staying Alive, well, let us all just curse Sylvester Stallone, who co-wrote it and directed it. It's a sixth rate Rocky retread thanks to him. Anyway, this is about the music in those movies. Both soundtracks hold up rather well. Fever, of course, is a disco milestone. It's the benchmark of the genre. Alive is really cool, too. Choice cuts: Bee Gees' gorgeous ballad, "Someone Belonging to Someone," Frank Stallone's fist-pumping anthem "Far From Over" and Tommy Faragher's underrated pop-rocker "Look Out for Number One." |
