The Unlimited Enthusiasm Tour 2008 came through Dallas last night and despite slight technical difficulties, gave fans at the Granada theater an awesome show. Before and after interview with concert-goers:
Hear music from Harry and the Potters: (Photo: Harry and the Potters) Uncle Monsterface opened with their unexpected puppet/skit/rock show. The icing on the cake was the mascot-a man dressed in "normal" clothes with a monster head, dancing and singing during the entire concert (you can't make this stuff up). Math the Band came out and created never before seen dances despite minor technical difficulties, boasting "That's what you get when you get your drums for $10 on Craigslist." Fishboy was next with a slightly more pop sound and just as random dancing. All three bands sang about silly things including a little sister with lice, tacos, doing jumping jacks and "the power of going". Many of them were less than a minute long, probably because mere humans can't jump, yell and be that incredibly enthused for much longer than that. Harry and the Potters came out to a very warm crowd and got everyone jumping and singing along. This is by far the most interactive show I have ever been to. Harry and the Potters had no problem talking to the audience and changing up the songs to make everything more fun. Most fans knew each song by heart and those who didn't learned them quickly. The occasional videos between sets to promote literacy, voting and staring at bananas gave the whole night a feel like it was more than a concert. People from young elementary age to teenagers with their grandparents enjoyed themselves. By the end of the night my friend and I had spent close to $60 on t-shirts, CDs and bags (which isn't bad) and agreed it was an excellent way to spend a Wednesday night. It sounds like it was a pretty crazy time. I'm currently listening to Harry and the Potters on youtube, not bad.
