I would have ended up in bed Friday night nursing the fresh bump on my head, bemoaning loss of my favorite left shoe and complaining that the music sounded like it belonged in someone's garage. But, alas, I did not because Coheed & Cambria delivered a truly amazing show at the House of Blues. The crowd stood mostly still while Russian Circles opened with their purely instrumental show. The three musicians are very talented but without vocals it felt more like an intrusion of band practice than a show. The Secret Machines played more mellow music that didn't seem to fit with the other two sets and made us all a little sleepy. Once the second set ended people got antsy and for a petite girl (a whopping 5'3") surrounded by grown men with no regard for their limbs, this scenario is very bad. After being knocked unconscious by a stray elbow and drug from the pit by my good friend and new hero during Coheed & Cambria's second song (if I pushed you on my way out I apologize) I opted to sit on a stool, half barefoot and enjoy the rest of the show from there. I looked silly singing "Bye Bye Beautiful" and "The Suffering" while nursing my aching head but it was all so worth it. Just when I was beginning to wonder if they were ever going to play "Welcome Home" lead singer and guitarist Claudio announced they would play only one more. And that wasn't it. However, the encore did deliver. Not only did they play my favorite song but they brought out the double neck guitar and entertained with an extra long solo. I could see everything by now because a nice guy next to me noticed my legs shaking from 45 minutes on my tip toes and offered me a spot in front of him. So, whoever you are, I thank you. To anyone who was actually concsious during the whole show, let me know how it was. And I pray it was less painful. E-mail entry: |
