It was pretty much the "hit parade" for Tom and his boys. Steve Winwood offered a good opening set and then Tom brought Stevie onstage halfway through his set for a couple of songs with him and the Heartbreakers. All in all a good show - great tunes, outstanding musicianship and what we've come to expect from the master songwriter Tom Petty. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

Although the Petty set was hit laden, he did reach into the roots rock genre with an excellent rendition of Gloria. He also allowed Winwood to shine on the Spencer Davis Group number, Gimme Some Lovin' and Blind Faith's I Can't Find My Way Home. The Heartbreakers proved to be the perfect companions to Winwood, who played both guitar and B3.

The concert brought back many memories of Gainesville. Listening to his songs reminded me again what a great storyteller he is. Wish he had played Here Comes My Girl. Lisa

Lisa - I also missed "Here Comes my Girl", but "Gloria" more than made up for it. I forgot to mention how effortless these guys make it look, when we know how tough it is.

By the way - didn't any one from the Dallas Morning News review the show? Caught the review in the Fort Worth Star Telegram, but nothing in DMN. The cutbacks just get worse and worse.

"Did you see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers -- and Steve Winwood -- at the AAC Wednesday night? Tell us your review of the show."

No Petty review on the blog? This is equivalent to a singer sticking the microphone out toward the audience and let them sing the song.

How frustrating is it that you can't get a review on one the major music shows of the summer but instead we can read a SYNDICATED ARTICLE FROM THE AP on the front page of the Entertainment Section about Brian WIlson's new album. Yawn.

A cut and paste newspaper in a major market - how disappointing.

Is there anyone left to actually cover music in Dallas?

Come on DMN - I have grown up in Dallas, lived here for over 40 years and learned to read from the DMN sports page. The morning paper is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Since the DMN couldn't/wouldn't send someone to review the show (which was great, BTW) Here is a link to a Petty/Winwood review.

Could call it the Greatest Hits show. I haven't seen a good solid concert like this since the 70's Who, Eagles, Genesis, and Moody Blues shows (ok, there are probably some more). Perfect evening and Tom is definitely cashing in from his well deserved Super Bowl appearance from the response of the AAC crowd. I love how he brought life back to the Wilburys. I never thought I would ever hear any Wilburys live. The only gripe I have is not about the performance, but more about some of the inconsiderate people that go, just to say they went. After several concerts over the past few years I am sick of the "made up, dressed up, twenty something girls, that come in packs" and sit through the whole concert TALKING. They text, they talk, they joke about boyfriends, they have no idea what music is playing and they go to the bathroom or get another beer every 10 minutes. Barflies need to stay at the bar where they can do this and not impose on other folks that came to enjoy the venue they paid to see and hear. Save your $75 bucks, go to the bar and buy some drinks and then just tell everyone you went to see Tom Petty. Oh yeah, I'm sure I ruffled some feathers here, but if the shoe fits wear it!

The show was fantastic. TP and the boys really rocked the house, and they can still bring it with a passion. True, it was basically a hit parade, but the songs are all good, and still make you want to sing along. The crowd did plenty of singing along last night.

The sit-in with Steve Winwood was a treat. "Gimme Some Lovin" was greatness.

There are a lot of bands that have been around for a long time, but none rock any better than TP and the Heartbreakers.

DMN posted a review - thanks I stand corrected on my previous post.

Nice review - great show. One of the best of the summer (but still doesn't hold a candle to Radiohead).

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are the best live performers I have ever seen. They have never disappointed me any time I have seen them. The Hearbreakers are the best musicians anyone could ask for, they always deliver. Mike Campbell on lead guitar always astounds me with his virtuoso performances. He is among the best of the best in my opinion, on par with Eric Clapton or anyone else of that ilk. I've loved Tom Petty since my college days, thirty years later I still do and always will. As far as rock groups go, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are the quintessential rock band, pretty much near perfection! Thanks Tom!

My first Tom Petty concert Why did I wait so long? Why-Why Why!!?? As powerful a show as I've ever seen. I've heard Petty afficianados wax non-plus this show was good not great compared to past performances. Perhaps that's true and I understand he wasnt feeling well and it's the end of the tour etc. Honestly you could not tell--what a pro. The quality of he and his band's musicianship harkens back to the best live performances I've been priviledged to witness by the likes of Led Zeppelin, The Who, Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney. Amazing. And the ageless Steve Winwood to boot. Major icing on the cake. His performance --accompanied by Tom and his Heatbreakers---of Cant Find My Way Home from the Blind Faith era: pure magic. Great show. Great memories.

Tom Petty is the definition of ROCKSTAR. All the kids today need to study this cat.

Steve Winwood is one of the best musicians to ever hit out airwaves. I have always loved the B3 and he is the master of that instrument. The old SDG tune he played w/ Petty was absolute greatness...Can't find my way home is one of the best songs ever....

Great night, great show.
