We Were There: Augustana, Maroon 5 and Counting Crows

Maroon 5, the Counting Crows and opening act Augustana were in fine form Saturday night at Superpages.com Center. Maroon 5 played most of its hit songs, including "This Love," "Sunday Morning" and "Won't Go Home Without You." Girls in the crowd stood up and screamed as Adam Levine stayed true to form and performed the band's songs almost exactly as they sound on the radio.

The screams of young girls were largely absent from the Counting Crows' performance, which was characterized by subdued fans who sat and watched Adam Duritz's artistic presentation of the group's songs. He made it clear he wasn't there to just sing; he was there to emotionally engage the audience in songs that hinted at deeper meanings than their lyrics might suggest. The group played some of its classics, such as "Long December" and "Mr. Jones," as well as some tunes from its newest album, "Saturday Nights & Sunday Evenings."

Maroon 5 was excellent. Great energy!

Counting Crows was much more subdued. While the sound was great there was not much crowd interaction. I was really looking forward to singing some of the more upbeat songs but it didn't happen.

Counting Crows WERE AWFUL. Why were they headlining instead of Maroon 5???? We left shortly after Mr. Jones which was incomprehendible.

rooooooooooooooooound here!

Opening band Augustana were horrible. Maroon 5 was fantastic and great to see and thankfully they went on before Counting Crows!

It would have been absolute torture to sit thru Counting Crows set to get to Maroon 5 so I am thrilled Maroon 5 went first.

I have to say I was looking forward to the entire concert but Counting Crows were a total disapointment. We left after 4 songs, wanted to leave earlier but gave them the benefit of the doubt and hoped things would get better. It never did. Talk about a crowd downer band. They really killed the energy and excitement of the crowd.

It was hard to watch that dreadlock freak up on that stage. Maroon 5 should find a much better band to tour with. I sure hate it for those in the crowd that have to sit thru Counting Crows opening up first as they do every other concert the two share.

The best part of this concert was the good looking crowd. Maroon 5 really dials in some seriously hot sub 30's girls while Counting Crows seems to appeal to the hot sub 50's Sarah Palin's of the world.

Maroon 5 fired up the hotties for some pretty inspired group kareoke as they knew every word and were having a great time getting into the band.

Counting Crows were good artistically but sounded as if Adam Duritz was so in the bag (as in maybe a bottle of Jack) that his performance was way way way too loose to even remember which song they were playing. It sounded good but they so rarely brought the loose playing back to the center of the song and so they put everybody to sleep.

what a total disappointment from CC. I went for them and my wife for M5 (by far the better of the 2). I had to keep turning to her and apologizing for how awful they sounded. I can understand his artistic nature and wanting to arrange and interpret the songs differently, but don't do it on every song. like to hear some of the classics as they are. stuff off the new album luckily was sung straight up---thankfully b/c otherwise it would have been unrecognizable.

I have to agree with most of the above, with the exception that Augustana was great! It was a larger venue and much diffrent crowd than they are accustomed to; but they sounded melodic and fantastic as usual.

Maroon 5 definitely stole the show. CC were sound artistically, but really disappointing overall. As a fan for last 15 yrs and having been to several concerts, I felt this one was more of a jam session for themselves than a concert for the fans. Still love ya Adam but was hoping for more.

I disagree with everyone who said CC was awful - the were AWESOME!! This was my 10th time to see them and I thought Adam's voice was stronger than ever. These are their songs and they can sing them however they want. They've never been known to 'sing just like the album' like M5 which wasn't too exciting for me. I can see where someone going to hear the album version of a song might be disappointed, but as a long time fan, I thought they were fantastic!! Rock on CC!!

CC is amazing! You have to know that going into the concert that's the way Adam Duritz is! He's spreading a message when he plays. Although he seemed rather hiiiigh! ADAM DURITZ for PREZ!!

These 2 bands should not be performing together. Maroon 5 was predictable and meant for 12 year old girls and their mothers. CC sounded great and the way they perform their music is always interesting but I can see why people who want to come to a concert and hear their favorite songs played exactly like they hear it on the radio left.

CC never sounds the same live as the do on their albums. Each of the songs have incredible meaning for the lead singer. He sings them very differently each time. I loved the feeling and emotion he put into the songs and the band sounded great!

M5 was very cookie-cutter. Their light show was energetic for the kiddos, but I was bored out of my mind. It was like listening to the CD.
