So over at Macworld today, Apple announced that it would remove Digital Rights Management from all 10 millions songs in its library. Also, song prices will come in three tiers — 69 cents, 99 cents and $1.29 — which will be decided by record companies. You can read the full AP story here. As to the DRM removal, all I can say is "it's about time." Yes, I know there are other outlets for getting music sans DRM. But I have to admit that iTunes makes it entirely too easy for me. I can buy using Paypal! It organizes my music! It suggests other songs I might like! For the price tiers, well, I probably could have saved some money when I went on that old school, college days of rock shopping spree last week. Somehow, I've got to think that Fastball's "Out of My Head" would have gone for 69 cents. I guess the real test will come with new releases. E-mail entry: |
