Apple cuts copy protection, prices on iTunes

So over at Macworld today, Apple announced that it would remove Digital Rights Management from all 10 millions songs in its library. Also, song prices will come in three tiers — 69 cents, 99 cents and $1.29 — which will be decided by record companies.

You can read the full AP story here.

As to the DRM removal, all I can say is "it's about time." Yes, I know there are other outlets for getting music sans DRM. But I have to admit that iTunes makes it entirely too easy for me. I can buy using Paypal! It organizes my music! It suggests other songs I might like!

For the price tiers, well, I probably could have saved some money when I went on that old school, college days of rock shopping spree last week. Somehow, I've got to think that Fastball's "Out of My Head" would have gone for 69 cents. I guess the real test will come with new releases.
