Twitter Poll: MP3, CD, vinyl or other and why?

twitterpoll copy.jpgHere's a question about something I wonder often: MP3, CD, vinyl or other and why?

I've always preferred CDs myself. Looking through the artwork and lyrics (if they're included; seems to be a dying feature imho) is part of the experience of listening through an album for the first time. But since I got my Zune (don't hate iPod folks) I see the pluses for quick downloads. I like cherry picking songs and am more inclined to give a new artist a listen if I don't have to buy the whole album. Now vinyl records? I've never owned or heard one, but people tell me they have the best sound. Anyone want to send me one and a player so I can hear what I'm missing?

Do you use those MP3 cards that you can buy at Target or Best Buy or wherever? I gotta know, what's the benefit of using those to download your songs over using Amazon, iTunes or other sites?

Continue reading to see the Twitter Poll results and to tell us which media you prefer for getting your music.

ryanpaulsmith: Live or CD. Live is self explanatory....CD because I like the liner notes.

brian72975: MP3, for the environment

2letters2words: CD... because I still use a lot of music in the car, and I can rip them to the MP3 player for the gym. Not so visa-versa.

KnightsSid: CD

cstanderfer: MP3: small, easy, available

ginger08: mp3 = easy & convenient, vinyl = best sound, cd = can do without

Point31: MP3 - I quit caring about the tangibles when the artist and/or record companies gave up/quit caring about designing them.

DeejayDj: As a user of all applications; Vinyl, theres nothing like the rich sound of a hot track on vinyl in the club environment....

drfunkenstein88: Cd, I'm too young to remember vinyl, and Mp3's have terrible sound quality. CDs all the way!

I was searching on google for music sites and i found http://www.jhankar.pk and http://www.musicmaza.com . Both are content rich websites with upto date hindi songs, videos, wallpapers and song lyrics collection.

So i strongly recommend to check both the sites and leave your feedback.

Thanks

I'm a packaging guy. I love liner notes, cover art, inside art, all that nifty stuff. So vinyl is always No. 1 for me in general. However, I do love CDs as well. They are the closest you can get to vinyl in all regards for me. The whole MP3 thing has totally depersonalized music and taken all the fun out of enjoying it to the full extent.

While I agree with Erika and Mario, lets not forget that there are the LP's and CD's that contained no additional artwork or information. This is a trend that has been continued even to this day from artist and record companies. And while MP3's might been seen as a departure and distancing there are artist like Nine Inch Nails who have started a complete digital and interactive experience alongside the releases most notably for Year Zero, and that was a tangible release as well. The flip side is that some bands try and fill the gap with a PDF - but that sometimes doesn't seem to cut it.

Back when I was very young and before CDs were introduced, I very much enjoyed the large artwork, liner notes, etc. that vinyl releases offered. However, when CDs first came into the mainstream, I really liked the fact that pops and crackles were eliminated, as well as their smaller relative size and portability.

Over the years, however, many artists, producers, and/or engineers have joined the so-called "loudness war", in which the dynamic range in mastering ding has been sacrificed for the sake of loudness. MP3s are great for their portability, but the sound is compromised due to compression. I use it in my car as a necessary evil. When given the opportunity, I've begun purchasing in and converting to FLAC format to avoid that aspect.

Other than live, my favorite way to experience music these days is via headphones through my home receiver on CD.
